“The town of Alford Massachusetts features a long history, small demographics, interesting geography, and wildlife diversity. Alford has no stores, no motels or hotels, and not a single gas station, all of which are available in neighboring towns. The nearest hospital, Fairview Hospital, is located in neighboring Great Barrington. Alford is served by the 911 emergency service, please dial 911 for all emergencies. Alford does not have a post office, so rural mail delivery comes from neighboring zip codes. Modern communications are currently limited in Alford; there is no cable television or internet, DSL internet service is sparse, and cellular coverage is spotty at best. There are still a few farms in operation that export their goods, and sell goods in local stores and farmer’s markets. Some full-time residents are self-employed or own their own businesses, focused on trades and professional services. The majority of full-time residents work in surrounding areas; second-homeowners and retirees make up a large percentage of the town’s current population.”
